Benedictine Sisters Invite Public to Free Concert at Queen of Angels Monastery on October 26

The public is invited to attend the Eleventh Annual Founders' Day Concert & Celebration at the Benedictine Sisters' Queen of Angels Monastery Chapel on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 2 p.m. The free concert is presented by the Benedictine Sisters of Mt. Angel and the Queen of Angels Oblates to celebrate and thank God for the Sisters' 132-year history of community life and service to others. The Benedictine Sisters were established as a religious community in Oregon on October 30, 1882.

Among those scheduled to perform at the concert are the Josephine Trio, with Marjory Lange (violin), Katherine Parks (cello), and Christopher Wicks (piano); Ad Lucem, with vocalists Alison Seeber, Bev Ratajak and Laura Yeates; a joint Schola from Mt. Angel Abbey and Queen of Angels Monastery; Amy Griffith, harp; Don Robison (vocal) and Sr. Maureen Niedermeyer, OSB (piano); Novice Helen Thurlow (flute) and Sr. Teresa Gould (organ).

Following the concert, the Benedictine Sisters and Queen of Angels Oblates will host a reception for all guests and performers in Agatha Hall. The drawing for a 2014 Honda Accord LX, which is being raffled by the Benedictine Foundation, will take place during the reception at 4 p.m. Less than 350 raffle tickets (out of a total of 1,500) for the Honda remain available as of October 17th.

The concert is free and open to all; a free will offering at the concert will help support the Sisters' Retirement Fund. Historic Queen of Angels Monastery, the home of the Benedictine Sisters since 1887, is located at 840 S. Main Street in Mt. Angel. For more information about the Founders' Day Concert, car raffle tickets, or directions to Queen of Angels Monastery, please call the Benedictine Foundation at 503-845-2556.
