Prayer of the Heart Retreat
Prayer of the Heart gatherings will experience this way of prayer. Beginners and those of experience in this contemplative way of praying will experience silence and contemplation leading to action. Lectio, teachings, sharing and the practices of Prayer of the Heart experiences will be featured components of this silent day of being with God and others. Presented by Sr. Dorothy Pulkka, OSB.

Iconographic Arts Institute
The Iconographic Arts Institute will be held this summer at Shalom Prayer Center with its series of workshops on the vocation of the iconographer. The beginner session will be Tuesday, June 17 to Wednesday, June 25 and the intermediate/advanced session will be Friday, June 27 to Saturday July 5. Mystical Women, Mystical Body
The second millennium has witnessed a rich reservoir of eucharistic insights on the part of women mystics. This retreat seeks to introduce such women and then, through both conferences and opportunity to reflect on some of their texts, to arrive at a deeper appreciation of the centrality of the Eucharist. But I Say Unto You: A Writing Workshop
Our stories document what is important in life, engage us in self-reflection and point us in new directions. We will do writing exercises based on Gospel passages, by way of going deeper into our own work. We will also discuss memoir versus fiction, the use of notebooks and journals, and how to develop the writing habits that are best for each individual.
Presenter Martha Gies is a short story writer, essayist, and freelance journalist based in Portland. Her work appears in many literary quarterlies, including Notre Dame Review, Orion, The Sun, and Zyzzyva, and she is a frequent contributor to Eliot News and The Women's Review of Books. Gies is the author of Up All Night (Oregon State University Press, 2004), a documentary portrait of 23 people who work the night shift. She currently teaches at Marylhurst University, the Attic Writer's Workshop, and at Traveler's Mind, an annual writing program in Verzcruz, Mexico.
