Ways to Give
There are many ways to make a meaningful contribution to the Benedictine Foundation of Oregon. Here are some ideas for making a gift.
Give On-line (Donate here)
Gift of cash. The most common form of giving is to simply write a check to the Benedictine Foundation of Oregon and mail to P.O. Box 912, Mt. Angel, OR, 97362. It is quick and easy and provides for an immediate income tax deduction.
Gift by credit card. This is also a quick, easy and an increasingly common way to give. Just call 503-845-2556 and have your credit card handy.
Gift of Stocks
Transferring securities to the Benedictine Foundation provides some special tax benefits. If your stock has increased in value since you purchased it, and you have held it more than six months, you can transfer the stock and receive a charitable deduction based on the full fair market value. You also avoid any tax on the capital gains.
If the stock you want to give has decreased in value, it is to your advantage to sell the shares and donate the sale proceeds. That way you can deduct the loss on your tax return.

Gift of Real Estate
Building lots, homes, condominiums, farm acreage and other real estate make ideal charitable gifts. Such a gift provides an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the property, while also eliminating capital gains tax on property that has increased in value since you purchased it. A “bargain sale” of real estate to the Foundation is another possibility and provides a reduction in capital gains taxes as well as a partial income tax deduction.

Bequest or Estate Gift
By including the Benedictine Foundation of Oregon in your will (for a certain amount, a percentage of your estate, or a share of the residue), you can make a future gift to help support the work of the Benedictine Sisters. A bequest commitment allows you to defer a gift until after your lifetime, but gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you will be supporting a great organization and helping those in need through your will.

A Charitable Gift Annuity Pays You Income
A Charitable Gift Annuity can supplement your income with a guaranteed and fixed amount that is partially tax free. A gift annuity is a simple contract with us that you establish with a gift of at least $5,000. In return, you, and/or another person, will receive annual income for life. The annuity rate is based on the ages and life expectancies of the annuitants and will never change.

Gift of Life Insurance
Life insurance is something you can give at little cost to yourself. Contribute a life insurance policy you no longer need, and/or name us as a beneficiary. You receive a current income tax deduction and possible future deductions through gifts to pay policy premiums.

Gift of Retirement Plan Assets
Gifting Retirement Plan assets allows you to avoid the twofold taxation on IRAs or other employee benefit plans. You name the Benedictine Foundation of Oregon as the beneficiary of the remainder of the assets after our lifetime. This allows less costly assets for your heirs and provides significant support to a non-profit organization like the Foundation.

Gift of Retained Life Estate
You can make a charitable gift of your personal residence or farm but continue to live there. This change in ownership with retained occupancy provides a valuable charitable tax deduction and ensures lifetime use of the residence or property.
